Driving Physics Overhaul

Vehicle handling has received its most substantial overhaul since GTA 4 introduced physics-based driving. Footage shows noticeably more dynamic handling than GTA 5, with tighter cornering and sudden braking maneuvers that feel more grounded than the series' past arcade-style handling.

Races

Both car and dirt-bike races are confirmed as activities players can jump into, suggesting a more built-out racing/side-activity structure around vehicles than previous entries.

Police Pursuits

Police pursuits now involve patrol vehicles, armed officers, and helicopters as situations escalate. Shooting out the tires of a pursuing police vehicle is confirmed as one of the more effective ways to break off a chase.

Swapping vehicles entirely during a pursuit is also shown as a viable evasion tactic — in one sequence, changing cars lets Jason and Lucia drive past a squad of police cruisers without immediately being recognized.

Vehicle Combat

Shooting from a moving vehicle is confirmed, including firing at pursuing police during a chase — this ties directly into the combat system's broader vehicle-based options.

Vehicle Storage

Vehicle trunks can store weapons and spare clothes, giving players a way to prepare for a robbery or change appearance while escaping police — a system that connects vehicles directly to the game's disguise and wanted mechanics.

Character Switching During Driving

During a police pursuit, one character can handle the vehicle while the other engages separately (such as firing at pursuers), reflecting the simultaneous two-protagonist control system shown throughout the Extended Look.

What's Still Unknown

Rockstar has not detailed a specific vehicle list, the full vehicle customization system, or exact handling differences between vehicle classes. This page will be filled in with a full vehicle database once that information becomes available, likely around or after launch.
